For generations, shields have accompanied warriors into battle to provide them protection against edged weapons and blunt force attacks. These are widely considered to be defensive weapons – but, depending upon configuration and styling, they can be quite the formidable accessory.

This is my interpretation of a modern day constructed shield that closely resembles those used by men and women for hundreds of years. These shields will typically be constructed from pine that is adhered together prior to being permanently joined with strips of steel.

There is plenty of room to customize these shields as the most overt being the design or colors on the front. Warriors would paint their shields to show what army or clan they represented in battle. For modern day use, the imagination can run wild with various paint schemes and crests. I will be happy to accommodate your request within reason – I won’t be able to recreate the Sistine chapel on these.

This commission will include (1) completely assembled shield consisting of:

1.       Forged steel shield boss.

2.       Steel binding strips for the wood planks.

3.       Bands of steel around the edges for protection against slicing attacks.

4.       Handmade wooden handle on the rear of the shield.

5.       Appropriate amount of glued wood, having been sandwiched together.

The shield weighs 35 pounds when all of the above components are utilized. Many customers that intend on using this shield for a wall decoration will request forgoing some of the steel protection to reduce weight, should this be applicable to your situation, please let us know.
